Grades of Green Student Isaiah selected as the Los Angeles Lakers January 2018 Community Champion

He shoots, he scores! Grades of Green Youth Corps Eco-Leader, Isaiah earned a once in a lifetime experience with the Los Angeles Lakers. On Tuesday, January 9th, Isaiah attended the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Sacramento Kings game and was recognized on the court during halftime for his outstanding environmental work by receiving the  Lakers’ Community Champion of the Month award.  

The Community Champion of the Month initiative was created by the Lakers and LG Solar to recognize individuals in the greater Los Angeles area for their outstanding sustainability centered work in the community.

Isaiah has been a part of the Los Angeles Youth Corps Eco-Leadership Program for over three years. Preserving the Earth is an important part of Isaiah’s life because he wants to make sure there is a sustainable future for generations to come. In the past few years, Isaiah has led creative, fun, and inspirational  Research and Advocacy Activities in the following ways

- Installing a bluebird friendly garden at Hughes Middle School in Long Beach, CA

- Creating and delivering a presentation on native birds to students at Hughes Middle School

- Hosted a birdwatching event at the Dominguez Gap Wetlands

- Partnering with the creative writing club at his school to create a book featuring poems and student crafted artwork to celebrate local birdlife

- Creating a custom coloring book called “Danny the Dolphin”, which he printed and gave to students to teach them about ocean pollution and how it can be prevented

Grades of Green is proud of Isaiah for being honored as the Community Champion of the Month and for his amazing dedication to inspire and educate others to take care our environment.
